Ri-Ri straight SLAYED the CFDA Fashion Awards Monday, June 2nd and subsequently shut down Twitter and Instagram as well. Rihanna, who is not a stranger to daring fashion choices, served us (AND WE ARE SO GRATEFUL) a modern Josephine Baker-inspired look with a floor length gown made up of only fishnets and 216,00 Swarovski crystals. She complemented the ensemble with a pink feather boa, gloves and a glittering turban. The Adam Selman design was completely sheer, putting the singers perfectly toned body on full display (excluding parts covered by a nude colored thong).

When asked about the design Selman expressed,

The dress is just fishnet and crystals and a couple of fingers crossed

Later that night Rihanna received the Fashion Icon Award from Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour. Wintour praised the stars ability to affect fashion rather than follow it.  From head to toe the self-proclaimed bad gal became bigger than the awards themselves. In her acceptance speech she expressed her deep connection to fashion and her love of experimenting with different looks.

Fashion should never be frustrating ; It should be fun.

What do you think of Rihanna's daring look? Too much or just up her alley? Was it a publicity stunt to show up and show out the day Chris Brown was released from jail? Ok maybe we just want there to be a connection between those two but c'mon talk about timing!

We are sure her PR team were waiting in the wings for bad press and comments related to the singer's choice of clothing but honestly how could you monitor that conversation? Due to the event not being publicly filmed or available for underage audiences through a major network, censor organizations can't really fight it. Our decision would have been the same as theirs: Let the dress immortalize Rihanna as the fashion icon she was awarded to be and move on to the next project.
