“HIP-HOP IS RUN BY A WHITE, BLONDE, AUSTRALIAN WOMAN”

This title was scrolled across a latest Forbes.com post. The usually straight-line finance magazine decided to take an extreme left and delve into the world of Hip-Hop. The infamous white, blonde, Australian woman that they are referring to is Hip-Hop newcomer Iggy Azalea, who is slowly making her mark in the Hip-Hop game, but definitely not running it. Azalea's talent is undeniable and her potential to one day be a stakeholder in the female rap game can clearly be seen, but Forbes' clear neglect of femcee's such as Nicki Minaj, who has the actual female rap (and low-key pop) game on lock, clearly shows they should stay in their own lane.

The title was eventually changed to 'Hip-Hop's Unlikely New Star: A White, Blonde, Australian Woman" ,which better reflects the true content of the article; a profile of Azalea's unlikely success in the rap game.

In a genre dominated almost exclusively by African American men she sticks out like a statuesque thumb.

It is blatant that Azealea is not what automatically comes to mind when one thinks of female rappers, but she does not garner such a bold title. The music industry is not as black and white as the finance world, which is basically the approach that Forbes took when constructing this article. Just because an artist breaks records does not garner them the supreme title. The next time Forbes decides to diversify their content, they should examine all angles. But awesome press for Iggy! We are excited to see her next steps in this industry especially with her obvious mass media appeal.
